A busy day for A-Shift

On Wednesday, started the day with a single vehicle accident in the area of Hobcaw and the Georgetown double bridges. The report of a single vehicle went off the roadway and into the trees. The caller reported they couldn’t get out of the vehicle. EMD-1 (Brandon Ellis) was on scene in minutes while reporting for work confirming a single vehicle into the wooded area and it will be an entrapment.

Ladder 831 arrived first and started extrication of the single occupant with Medic 825. Ladder 821 arrived to assist L831s crew. The crews proceeded with a two-door lay down and the removal of the driver side door as well. The patient was extricated and moved to awaiting Medic 825 to transport to Grand Strand Trauma Center.

Early Thursday morning, Midway Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of Ocean Highway and Archer Road for a reported structure fire. The report by the sheriff’s department was smoke in the area and a visible glow in the sky from a distance but was upgraded to a working structure fire at Pawleys Island Lumber.

Midway Fire Rescue units arrived on scene with a second alarm struck quickly by Battalion 81. The crews started exposure protection of the adjacent building and lumberyard surrounding the fire building. The crews worked for three hours until command marked control of the scene and started releasing crews. Midway Fire Rescue crews were on scene all morning extinguishing hot spots with the fire investigation wrapping up early afternoon. In all, the fire grew to a 3rd alarm assignment.

All crews worked quickly and efficiently to keep the fire in the main fire building. Thankfully, no one was hurt. A big thank you to the mutual aid crews that assisted during the fire and stood-by while crews were operating.

L-814 utilized the FLIR Camera to check for hot spots once the main fire was extinguished.
