MUST be 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license and have a high school diploma. Applicants shall have successfully completed NFPA Firefighter 1 or IFSAC Firefighter 1 or equivalent unless a basic recruit school is being conducted. Applicants must also have a state EMT-Basic certification or Paramedic Certification. National Registry certification will be required within one year of employment. Preference will be given to those applicants with current National Registry Certification.

Interview:
Candidates that quality for the open positions will be contacted to schedule an interview. This interview will be conducted by a panel of current Midway Fire Rescue Department Employees.
Physical Ability Testing:
Candidates must complete the physical agility test. You will be required to complete the following tasks within ten minutes:
1) Pick up the 100ft. high-rise pack from the ground and place it on your shoulder. In a serpentine motion travel around the 2 marked cones to the front door of the training building.
2) Open the force door entry prop by pushing the door open and enter the building traveling through the first floor up the stairs hitting every step to the second floor still carrying the 100ft. high-rise pack.
3) Proceed to the exterior stairs and exit the building. Utilizing the exterior stairs proceed down the stairs hitting every step. Return back up the exterior stairs hitting every step. Place the high-rise pack on the pre-determined location.
4) Proceed to the window and pull up 50ft. section of 2 ½ hose roll by the rope hand over hand. The roll must be brought above the windowsill. Then lower the hose load to the ground in a controlled manner.
5) Proceed to the ceiling pull simulator. Utilizing the handle pull down x10 making a full extension.
6) Proceed to the ceiling breach simulator. Utilizing the provided bar raise in the air fully extending arms x5 with right hand on top and x5 with the left hand on top. Return the bar to the starting position.
7) Proceed down the exterior stairs and walk 75ft. to the marked area and back to the ladder raise station. Raise the ladder against the building, when it is against the building then lower the ladder back to the starting position.
8) Walk 75ft. to the marked area and back to the victim rescue station, push/pull sled. The sled is to be set on level 2. Push the sled 75ft. to the designated area.
9) Pull the sled 75ft. back to the starting position. Time is stopped
After the test is over the candidate will continue an active cooldown (walking) for a minimum of 2 minutes. The candidate will then follow the Rehabilitation Guidelines.
